Joan M. Ponzi, 87, formerly of Hillsville, passed away the afternoon of October 17, 2020 at Quality Life Services of New Castle. Born on September 25, 1933 in New Castle, Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Diana Candiello. Preceding her in death on November 15, 2007, is her beloved husband, Peter Ponzi, whom she married on April 19, 1958.
Joan retired after working for fifteen years at Kmart Department Store. She was a devoted member of the former Christ the King Parish, now Holy Spirit Parish, where she served with the Christian Mothers of the Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Joan loved spending time with her family and cherished being surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Mary Jo Ritter and her husband, Jeffrey, of New Castle, Peter Ponzi of Pittsburgh, Luann Watson and her husband, John, of Struthers, OH, her former daughter-in-law, Donna Ponzi of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren, Ashley Ahern, Thomas Ritter, Anthony Ponzi, Jarid Watson, Hayleigh Watson, Ian Watson and her great grandchildren, Chloe, Isabella, Anthony, Jayden and Anna Molly.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan is preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Candiello, Nicholas Candiello and her great granddaughter, Amelia.
Private calling hours will be held for the family at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church officiated by Rev. Father Anthony Sciarappa.
Lord God, you are attentive to the voice of our pleading. Give Joan eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on her forever. Let us find in your Son comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Make our faith strong through Christ our Lord. Amen.
