Jean M. Buzinski Calvert passed away on October 20, 2022. She was born October 21, 1953 in Mt. Clements, MI to Marion “Mike” Buzinski and “Polka Annie” Szymanek Buzinski. Jean married Robert “Bobby” Calvert on June 27, 2001 who survives at home.
After high school, Jean became a floating manager for the Art Van Furniture Company and lived in Frazer MI. On November 9, 1984, Jean moved to New Castle. After moving to New Castle, Jean was employed by Verizon where she worked for 25 years until her retirement in December of 2012.
Jean was very proud of her Polish heritage. She was one of the founding members of the “Michigan Rowdies”, a group of people that sponsored polka dances and supported polka dances in many states. Jean and Bobby met at polka dances as Bob was a member of several bands, mostly “The Brass Connection” a touring band that appeared in all of the polka hot spots throughout the country.
Jean and Bob made many friends all because of their love for polka music. Jean was very instrumental in all of the events sponsored by The Polish American Citizens of Lawrence County and she worked very hard to make the events a success. Besides waiting on Bob hand and foot, Jean liked to make homemade kielbasa, nut rolls, cruscki, and the best gloumbki (cabbage rolls) you have ever eaten.
Jean is survived by her husband; Bob, her brothers, Rick (Amy) Buzinski and Terry (Karen) Buzinski; sister, Marianne Buzinski; step-sons, Robert E. (Kim) Calvert and Brian (Jen) Calvert; step-grandchildren, Delaney, Madison, Nick and Lexi; and brother- in-laws, Ron (Colleen) Calvert, Dan (Janice) Calvert, and Tom Calvert. Jean absolutely idolized her grandchildren; they were her whole world.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Bev Buzinski and mother-in-law, Stella Calvert.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 Mill Street. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:30 pm for Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Ben Barr will be held at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at The Crane Room, 3009 Wilmington Road.
Eternal rest grant unto Jean, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
