The teens of the parish are having their traditional hoagie sale. The proceeds support their Mission Trip and youth activities. The 2022 Mission Trip to Cumberland, MD provided much needed service to the communities surrounding that beautiful mountainous region. This year, our CHWC is in North Haledon, NJ, near New York City. The hoagie sales help to cover the costs of this trip, including the $425 per person cost plus gas, car rental, beverages and snacks for the group. “Each sale, we raise enough money to pay for the cost for 1 person to attend. Our goal is to raise enough to help fund the trip for the teens,” group leader Angie Seman reports. The 14-inch hoagies sell for $10.00 each. Italian hoagies contain: ham, spicy ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone cheese & pepper jack cheese. American hoagies contain: ham, chipped ham, salami, bologna, Swiss cheese & American cheese. See Page 13 for more details, and thank you for your support. Now for a report from our seminarian, Chris Baker, as he enters into his second semester at St. Vincent Latrobe. "I want to thank everyone at my Holy Spirit Parish family for the constant support, and especially for the prayers. These last few months have been interesting but absolutely blessed. On September 12th, a brother seminarian asked me to play football for his intramural team, and as a star high school quarterback, the artist formerly known as "Chris Baker the Touchdown Maker", I figured I'd lace 'em up for old times sake, just to see if I still got it. The moral of the story is...I didn't still got it...if I ever did ha-ha. I ended up tearing my ACL and my Meniscus in my left knee and after a number of doctors’ office visits, an MRI, and a few opinions, I opted to have surgery which I had done on November 17th. The experience found me meeting a lot of awesome people, particularly those Physical Trainers who have been so essential to my recovery. I'm sure you're wondering if all I do is play sports or if there is some sort of school associated with this seminary thing. My first semester had me taking seven classes and, honestly, they were great. I took Patrology which is the study of the Church Fathers (would highly recommend reading any of the writings of the Fathers) and the historical time in which they lived. I also took Greek and we literally translated a little over the first half of the Gospel according to John—wow. I took History of Ancient Israel which really enlightened me on the Israelite people of the Old Testament, who they were and the backdrop that set the scene for their story—also many Hebrew words ha-ha. I won't tell you about all my classes, but the last one was also great: Fundamental Theology, taught by Fr. Ed Mazich, the rector of the seminary. I really enjoyed this class and I enjoy how Fr. Ed teaches, he is a brilliant man, but also mixes in some humor, but most of all hones in on what it is that makes Theology important to us as a people, as a Church and how it helps us to get where we want to go. Ultimately I am incredibly blessed to be at St. Vincent, am enjoying the community here and have continued to grow in trust that the Lord is working deeply in my life, even if I don't understand or am a little nervous about how something might turn out, He Leadeth Me. Thanks for your prayers, know of mine and hope to see you all soon!" God love you,
