Respecting human life from conception to natural death is ultimately respecting God. We respect the will of God when we respect creation as he intended it to be. This reality goes far beyond just when life begins and when life ends. It is also the reality of how life is to be lived. There is a tendency in our culture today to fall victim to what is called “false compassion.” This is when the laws of God are set aside for human convenience. Truth is not something that is established on a subjective foundation but on an objective one. Those who say you have your truth and I have mine live in a world of utter confusion. There is an objective truth outside of ourselves. This is the truth of natural law and God’s will.
False compassion is at the heart of much confusion in our society today. God created life. God created male and female. When we violate the laws of God, the laws of morality, do we not suffer the consequences just as when we violate the laws of physics? It is not compassionate to go along with a person suffering from mental illness. It is not compassionate for nations to invest trillions of dollars in weapons of war and a pittance in research and advances for mental illness.
With all we can accomplish with technology and organ transplants as well as orthopedic wonders, we have not, as a people, advanced in the area of psychological health. And this is at the heart of so many of our woes today.
In this month, when we, as Catholic Christians, raise our voices once again to defend the dignity of human life from conception to natural death, let us also pray and work for the wisdom of God’s will and not the arbitrary and subjective will of human beings. Compassion is not going along with the lie of our culture that violates God’s laws. Let us pray that God will raise up men and women throughout the world who will stand up for truth and justice. Let us pray that his Holy Spirit will melt the hard hearts of those who have no moral compass, but seek their own self-indulgence.
May we, as a parish community, not shy away from teaching our children the truth about life, what’s right and wrong in the sight of God and our eternal salvation based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ and our union with Him through His divine sacraments. All of this is another reason why Catholic Education, both in our own school systems, and in Faith Formation on the parish level is so important. Adult Education for our parents, grandparents and godparents is paramount. We cannot give what we do not possess ourselves. How can we live our faith if we don’t understand or know our faith? How can we live the teachings of Christ if we have no knowledge of them, or erroneous knowledge?
Please check out on our website the many opportunities to further your understanding of our Catholic Faith and the moral teachings of Jesus Christ. Do it for yourself. Do it for your children. Remember we are here to help if you are interested in enrolling your children in Catholic Education. This option is certainly open to you in our partnership with Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools.
Wising you and yours a very blessed week, living the faith and passing it on!
