James E. Cardella Sr., 81, passed away Dec. 10, 2021, at UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle. He was born Nov. 10, 1940, to Frank A. and Mary D. (Kovach) Cardella. On Feb. 25, 1967, James married Alice (Fleeger) Cardella. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2011.
Jim was a graduate of New Castle High School and enlisted in the United States Army, in which he spent a tour in Germany. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of sergeant. Jim retired form B&O Railroad, and was a board member of Mahoning Sportsman Association for over 50 years, holding several positions, including president. He loved and enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He spent many days afield with his sons, brothers and friends.
Jim is survived by two brothers with whom he was very close, Frank A. Cardella of New Castle and Stephen M. (Mary Ann) Cardella of Bessemer, Pennsylvania; granddaughter, Nikki T. (Cody) Stephens; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Addison and Grayson, all of New Castle; nephews, Stephen F. (Kimmie) Cardella of New Castle, Patrick F. and Chad Angiolelli of New Castle, Terre (Wes) Yarletts of Bessemer; and five great-nephews and great-nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife, Alice, Jim was preceded in death by two sons, Michael A. and James E. Cardella Jr.
Mr. Cardella and his family would like to thank Chad Rager, a very close friend, for helping Jim for many years. Following his wishes, there will be a private blessing service held for immediate family this week at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lucy's Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Jim, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
