James D. Mazzocco, 92, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of March 18, 2021 at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehab Center. Born May 6, 1928 in New Castle, he was the son of Anthony and Nellie (Cioffi) Mazzocco. Mr. Mazzocco was preceded in death in 2016 by his wife of 68 years, Pauline (Frank) Mazzocco.
A Navy veteran, he served his country during both WWII and the Korean Conflict aboard several aircraft carriers. He was employed for many years with Shenango China, retiring as a superintendent. Because of his love of cars, he was the owner/operator of several gas stations over the years where he was also the mechanic.
Jim was a member of the Eagles and SNPJ. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing and golf. In earlier years, Jim and his wife Pauline loved to dance. He was a member of St. Vitus Church – Holy Spirit Parish. Jim will always be remembered as a solid man, loved by everyone he met.
Jim is survived by three grandchildren; Angela (Steve) DeSalvo and Nichole Mazzocco of New Castle and Olivia Mazzocco of Clark, PA; three great-grandchildren, Brianna DeSalvo, Jordyn DeSalvo and Niko DeSalvo; and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Mazzocco of New Castle.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son in 2020, Ronald J. Mazzocco.
A one-hour visitation will be held on Monday, March 22, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A Blessing Service will be held at 11:00 with Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish officiating. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
