Irene Ryczaj, 95, of Neshannock Twp. passed away peacefully on the evening of November 15, 2022. Irene was born September 9, 1927 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late John and Rosalie (Babski) Adamczyk. She was married to the late Joseph T. Ryczaj for 60 years. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2008.
Irene was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of Holy Spirit Parish-St. Mary site. She was a graduate of Shenango High School, class of 1945. Irene worked as a long distance telephone operator for Bell Telephone and retired from Penn Power Company as telephone operator in New Castle. Irene was a member of the Silver Threads, and attended the First Presbyterian Church Recreation Center. She spent many years volunteering at Holy Spirit’s various events. Irene enjoyed the time she spent baking with her grandchildren and family. Irene also enjoyed line dancing, traveling, sewing, and going to casinos.
Mrs. Ryczaj is survived by her daughter, Karen (Robert) Vannatten of New Castle; son, Joseph (Janet) Ryczaj of Auburn, CA; brother, Julian (Jane) Adamczyk of New Castle; sister, Jeanne Gawdyda of Avon Lake, OH; four grandchildren, Josh (Dorann) Vannatten, Ryan (Kait) Vannatten, Jonathan Vannatten, and Joseph A. Ryczaj, and great grandchildren Knox, Cash, Cruz and a great granddaughter on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband Joseph T. Ryczaj, Irene was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Duda, Josephine Pivovar, Florence Rotuno, and Bernice Witkowski; and three brothers, John, Theodore, and Max Adamczyk.
Visitation was held at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. New Castle. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary Church at 1:00 pm. Rev. Aaron J. Kriss of Holy Spirit Parish officiated. Burial will take place at SS Philip and James Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Irene, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
