Gertrude D. Dietz, 97, of Edinburg passed away the morning of July 3, 2022 at Jameson Care Center. Born in Youngstown, OH on December 8, 1924, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Larry and Catherine Boos Sturgeon. Her husband of over fifty-five years, Fred C. Dietz, Jr. preceded her in death on February 28, 1999. They married on August 28, 1943.
Gertrude was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. James the Apostle site. She worked for Pine Hills Market as a meat cutter for over twenty-five years until she retired. She enjoyed playing cards, flower gardening, traveling to and visiting Lake Erie. Gertrude also enjoyed time with her family and having family gatherings and picnics.
Gertrude is survived by her four children, Sandra L. Binder; David L. Dietz and wife, Denise; Jeffrey G. Dietz and wife, Christine; Patrice Felger and husband, Michael; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael Binder; brother, William Sturgeon, and her sisters, Mary Skovira, Dorothy Curry and Margaret Zimmerman.
Visitation is Thursday from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 1:15 pm for Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm by Father Brendan Dawson of Holy Spirit Parish. Burial will take place at St. James Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made out to Holy Spirit Parish and mailed to 910 S. Mercer St. New Castle, PA 16101.
Eternal rest grant unto Gertrude, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
