George M. Lamorella, 98, formerly of Lynn St. passed away the morning of October 22, 2019 at Gracewoods Assisted Living in Niles, Ohio. Born in New Castle on March 6, 1921 he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Rose Anzalone Lamorella.
George graduated from New Castle High School in the class of 1938. On April 3, 1948 George married his beloved wife the former Nicolina (Nikki) Mastroianni and she preceded him in death on October 13, 1992. George had worked for Midwestern Electric Supply Company as Office Manager for twenty-six years before retiring in 1983. He also worked part time as a Tax Practioner from 1951 until retiring in 1995.
George was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Joseph the Worker Church. He had served as Head Usher and was a past Parish Council Member. George was member of the CCC and in 1938 he served six months as a Member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.in Virginia.
George served his country as a member of the United States Army from December 1943 to January 1946. He served four months at Camp Lee, VA and sixteen months overseas in England and France during World War II. During his time of service, he received The Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
George was a former member of the Eagles Club, AARP, Tax Preparer Assoc., and the past financial secretary for Knights of Columbus council 512. George also enjoyed bocce and bowling and played on many of the local leagues.
He is survived by his children, Regina Marich and her husband, Pete, of Warren, OH; Vincent M. Lamorella and his wife, Linda, of New Castle, five grandchildren; Pamela Bowser and her husband, Alan; Brenda Meyer and her husband, Darren; Lisa Fenechi and her husband, Jeremy; Michael Lamorella and his wife, Jacquie; Justin Lamorella and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Lamorella and three sisters, Josephine Delillo, Mary Cangiano, and Clara Fair.
Visitation will be on Friday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Joseph the Worker Church. Father Nick Vaskov will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the cemetery.
