Frank Lambiase, 98, formerly of Mahoningtown, passed away the morning of November 5, 2020 at Jameson Care Center. Born to the late Michael and Mary (Cangey) Lambiase on February 25, 1922, Frank spent his youth enjoying the comforts of his large Italian family, participating in Sunday dinners, and snatching tomatoes out of his mother’s garden.
After graduating from New Castle High School, Frank spent his career as a plumber and worked for LTV Steel as a pipe fitter. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He was in the European theater of war throughout France and Germany. Frank was a Sergeant and Tank Commander in the 24th Tank Battalion of the “Black Cats” 13th Armored Division in General Patton’s Third Army.
Frank greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, coming home with deer and sharing his bounty every season. Additionally, he was one of the original and last surviving members of the Wabash Bears Bowling League and Softball Team. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the American Legion Post 343. Beloved by everyone who knew him, Frank was a notoriously selfless, kind, and generous person. His good-nature and joviality were immediately obvious to everyone who met him. Frank was warmly regarded as “Uncle” by those who knew and loved him most; and he was like a second father to all his nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sackin, in 1986; parents; brothers, Eugene and Ralph; sisters, Viola Criscito, Josephine Leban, Virginia Occhibone, Irene Tempesta, and Helen DeCarbo; niece, Judy Cochran; great-niece, Sherry Peak; nephew, David Occhibone; and great-nephew, Mark Navarra. He is survived by one sister, Dolores Stull, and by 7 nieces, 7 nephews, 19 great nieces, 10 great nephews, 10 great-great nieces, 12 great-great nephews, 4 great-great-great nieces and 7 great-great-great nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday, November 8, at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S Mill Street. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Rites at the funeral home at 12:15 on Monday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, November 9, at 1 pm at Saint Vitus Church. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Burial will be at Saint Lawrence Cemetery. CDC public health protocols, which call for the wearing of masks and the practicing of social distancing, will be observed.
