Emerich Kizmann, 91, of New Castle passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, December 26, 2022, in Edison Manor Nursing Home, where he was well cared for and loved to entertain the staff with stories. Mr. Kizmann was born January 26, 1931, in Spisske Vlachy, Slovakia, a son of the late Albert and Vilma (Strisvosky) Kizmann. His beloved wife of 52 years, Helen (Crowley) Kizmann, whom he married Sept. 5, 1959, preceded him in death Dec. 16, 2011.
After surviving the Holocaust during WWII, he and several siblings emigrated from Slovakia to the United States. Emerich proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1993, he retired from Rockwell International’s Axle Division in New Castle where he had worked as a machinist for 25 years.
A devout Catholic, Emerich was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle – St. Mary site. He was also a member of the Eintracht Singing Society and sang in its Maennerchor Choir. Emerich enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and playing the mandolin. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father, and loving grandfather who always looked forward to time spent together – especially watching thunderstorms with his children and grandchildren. He was known throughout town for being the man who rode his bicycle everywhere for decades.
He is survived by his daughter, Florence M. Yaeger, of Highlands Ranch, CO; two sisters, Eva Kelly, of Lewisburg, WV, and Theresia Thompson, of Faribault, MN; two grandchildren, Myranda Herdine (Craig), of Florida, and Christofer Lewis, of Colorado; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Watkins, of New Castle.
In addition to his parents and wife, Emerich was preceded in death by a son, Denis Kizmann; a sister, Marienka; and three brothers, Julius (Waltraud), Joseph, and Alois.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this coming spring at St. Mary Church in New Castle PA. Interment: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Union Twp.
Eternal rest grant unto Emerich, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
