Betsy Mancino, 85, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2021, at Manchester Commons Retirement Community in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on July 29, 1936, to the late Henry O. Moyer Sr. and Eleanor M. Cane. Betsy was the beloved wife of 59 years to the late Dr. Peter J. Mancino of New Castle, Pennsylvania.
Betsy graduated from St. Mary Academy in Plainfield, New Jersey, and later from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation from St. Mary's, she joined the nursing staff at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she met a young doctoral intern and persistent suitor. The rest, as they say, is history.
Betsy's vibrant love of life, her interests and her passions were boundless. She enjoyed cross country skiing on the coldest of days and riding her stabled horse on crisp autumn mornings before a ceramics class. She was a playful but fierce competitor who excelled at tennis and bowling. She was an enthusiastic member of the Lawrence County Garden Club and several bridge groups. She was a Red Cross volunteer and served as the past President and Treasurer of the Lawrence County Medical Auxiliary Society.
Betsy was an avid traveler who enjoyed several trips to Europe, but especially enjoyed her tour of Ireland where she connected with her ancestry. One of her greatest joys were her annual trips to New York City with close friends, her daughters and granddaughters to enjoy the latest Broadway shows and midtown restaurants. Those raucous trips created lasting and indelible memories for all. But that's what Betsy did. She created memories. Her family gatherings for every holiday are legendary.
Betsy is survived by her stepsister, Carol Ann; five children:, Beth Ann Eckian, Denise Stanley and husband Ned, Lynn Bradley and husband Brian, Charles Mancino and wife Sherry, and Jonathon Mancino; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her stepfather, William Bechtel; sister, Maryann Moyer-Sheeler; and brother, Henry O. Moyer Jr.
A Catholic Mass, officiated by Fr. Bob Miller, to celebrate Betsy's life will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at Holy Spirit Parish (St. Camillus Church), 314 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, Pennsylvania.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Harborcreek, Pennsylvania.
Eternal rest grant unto Elizabeth, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
