It is with an abundance of love and sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene G. Isidro on February 20, 2022 at age 91. Born in the Philippines on June 2, 1930, he was a son of the late Jose and Martina Isidro. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Felipe, Godofredo, Marcellino, Gregorio and Johnny, and his sister, Rosalina Acosta.
Dr. Isidro was a 1956 graduate of Santo Tomas University Medical School, Manila, Philippines. He traveled to the U.S. after his internship and chose to study Pathology at Youngstown Hospital Association in Ohio. American citizenship was soon proudly embraced. In 1963, he traveled to Jameson Hospital in New Castle to fill in for the vacationing pathologist. He was warmly received and soon hired as Associate Pathologist. He was the first foreign medical graduate on staff. Dr. Isidro’s emergence in the area served as a groundbreaking role, which in turn, through his knowledge, skills and demeanor, quite possibly lead the way for more foreign doctors to join the local community. His association with Jameson lasted 35 years, and he was named Chief Pathologist and Director of Laboratory in 1974.
Dr. Isidro was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus site. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. His culinary talents creating delicious eggrolls were always enjoyed during his many holiday parties which he hosted for his staff. One source of pride for Dr. Isidro was the vacation home he built in Royal Palm Beach, FL. Here, he spent many relaxing hours golfing and making family memories. Known as Gene or Geno to close friends and colleagues, he was a loving and devoted family man and friend, known to all for his kindness, intelligence and giving heart.
Dr. Isidro is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Frances (Rega) Isidro; three daughters – Aileen (Jeffrey) Solomon of Moon Township, PA; Lisa Isidro of Cape Coral, FL; and Amy Isidro of Vashon Island, WA; and one son – Greg (Joanne) Isidro of Lake Worth, FL.
