Dorothy A. Butler, age 80, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Nov. 26, 2022, at Shenango on the Green. Born May 3, 1942, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Josephine (Plonka) Sparano. On July 7, 1962, she married her beloved husband of 60 years, John W. Butler. He survives at home.
Dorothy attended St. Mary's School until ninth grade, then went on to graduate from New Castle High School, class of 1960. For a short time, she worked at Shenango China until it closed. Dorothy then went on to work for the Pennsylvania Unemployment Office for 26 years, processing claims until her retirement. She attended Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus site. What gave her the most joy in life was spending time with her family and cooking.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Lisa Ann (Donald Jr.) Frediani of Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, David (Andrea) Butler of Germantown, Maryland; one brother, Anthony Sparano of New Castle, Pe:nnsylvania; and one granddaughter, Olivia Hammond of Boston.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Blessing Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home, with Deacon John Curran of Holy Spirit Parish officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Dorothy, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
