Donna F. Donovan, age 97, of New Castle, passed away peacefully the early morning of Nov. 24, 2021, at Presbyterian SeniorCare in Washington, PA. Born April 17, 1924, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Catherine (Hemphill) Flynn. On June 17, 1950, she married her beloved husband, Thomas J. Donovan, who preceded her in death.
Donna was a graduate of New Castle High School. For 10 years, Donna worked at Bell Telephone, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping and was heavily involved in local volunteer efforts. Donna was a devoted member of St. Camillus Church. She served as President of St. Camillus Woman’s Guild, President of New Castle Woman’s Club, and was a member of St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and board member of the Pittsburgh Catholic Charities. Donna was the co-founder of the annual Lawrence County Festival of Trees. What gave Donna the most joy in life, was spending time with her family.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas (Mary) Donovan of Berea, OH, Timothy M. (Ann) Donovan of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jeffrey (Katrina) Donovan of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter, Elaine (Bill) LuPone of Gibsonia, PA; sister, Barbara Romano of Hillsville, PA; daughter-in-law, Marci Donovan of Bridgeville, PA; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Donna was preceded in death by one brother, James Edward Flynn and two sons’, James and Francis Donovan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday Nov. 28th, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am Monday, Nov. 29th, for a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Brendan Dawson, beginning at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus Church at 314 W. Englewood, Ave., New Castle PA, 16105.
Eternal rest grant unto Donna, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
