Donald W. ‘Duck’ DeGaton, 87, formerly of State Road in New Castle, died Friday, February 2, 2024, at UPMC Avalon Place. He was born in New Castle on April 13, 1936, the son of the late James and Margaret (Reed) DeGaton. Mr. DeGaton was married to the late Angeline S. (Deli) DeGaton, who died on May 15, 2023.
Donald served as a United States Marine during the Korean era. He was a tool and die maker at General Motors Lordstown Plant, retiring after 38 years on the job. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Joseph worship site. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and having a cup of coffee. He also enjoyed tinkering around the house and keeping up with his wife and grandchildren and all of their activities.
He is survived by four children, Donald D. ‘Jap’ DeGaton, Jr., Michelle D. ‘Mikki’ Lepisto and her fiancé, Roy Prosser, DeWayne D. ‘Dewy’ DeGaton and his fiancé, Lauren Purdy, and Kim Marie Ferrari and her husband, Chuck, all of New Castle; one great-grandson that Angeline and Donald raised since birth, Kobe DeRosa, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, James DeGaton and William DeGaton, two sisters, Margaret Mary Dunkin and Gladys Woldanin, and one granddaughter, Alicia DeRosa.
Private services, celebrated by Fr. Ben Barr of Holy Spirit Parish, will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on February 6. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Donald, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
