Blessed and joyous Gaudete Sunday! We are encouraged to rejoice in the Lord. Too often we focus on the burdens and difficulties of life, so that we fail to see the constant outpouring of God’s generous love and mercy. Our very life itself is a gift. It is the wonder of it all born in humility that makes true joy possible.
John the Baptist tells us that we must act. The people in today’s Gospel ask, “What are they to do?” We have to ask the same question. We have to act in order to make room for God to act in our life. The first step is humility, which leads to joy.
Speaking of joy, all those who participated in A Walk with Jesse brought not only joy but also knowledge to those who make the journey! My sincere thanks to Sr. Annie and her team of volunteers of all ages who made this wonderful experience possible. My hope is that next year even more of our families will take advantage of this once a year experience. Talk to anyone who made the Jesse Walk and you will make every effort to be there next Advent! Here are some quotes from those who were there: “No greater way to teach.” “This was incredible! I hope it happens again next year!” “A wonderful family experience.” “It truly enhanced our Advent experience.” “I am very glad my grandsons came. The little one sang between each room.” “A very moving experience.”
By now, all of you should have received your Christmas card in the mail with our warmest greetings and prayers. The card also announced the various times and places for confession and Mass.
Unfortunately there was one misprint that I need to bring to your attention. On December 25th, Christmas Day, the 8:00 am Mass is at St. Mary’s not at St. Vitus.
We will be posting the correct times and places for Christmas on the church doors which, hopefully, will prevent any confusion. By the way, so there is no confusion, New Year's Day, the Feast of Mary, Mother of God is not a holy day of obligationthis year. This is because it falls on a Saturday. Please see Page 10 and the back page of this bulletin for many more photos of the Jesse Walk. God love you,
