Deborah J. Tomon, 66, of New Castle died surrounded by her family Monday, September 26, 2022, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. She was born in New Castle on November 19, 1955, a daughter of the late Joseph Retort, Sr. and Charlotte (Pagley) Retort. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Ron Tomon.
Debby graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and at St. Francis Hospital in the Pediatric Unit for 10 years. Later she also served as an elementary paraprofessional at Union Area School District.
A devoted Catholic, Debby was a member of Holy Spirit Parish. She was proud to serve as a CCD teacher at Madonna and Mary Mother of Hope Church for 20 years. Debby enjoyed crafting, decorating, ceramics, collecting Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments, and QVC. Debby spread her love for family and friends through her cooking and baking, especially with homemade cavatelli, ravioli, and sauce. Her greatest joys were Sunday dinners and family gatherings with her beloved children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, four children, Michael Tomon and wife, Holly; Gregory Tomon and wife, Carrie; Ronnie Tomon (Jr.), all of New Castle, and Rachel (Tomon) Vein and husband, Matthew; of Steubenville, OH., her two brothers, Charles Retort and twin brother, David Retort, and seven grandchildren, Andrew Tomon, Ava Tomon, Matthew Tomon, Hannah Tomon, Luca Tomon, Ella Tomon, and Charlotte Vein, as well as extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Retort, Jr.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Dorner Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church at 1:00 pm. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 12:30 PM. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery with Fr. Veltri.
Eternal rest grant unto Debby, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
