David A. Dowdell, 96, formerly of Shenango Township, passed away the morning of May 28, 2020 at Clen-Moore Place. Born on February 22, 1924 in Sherrodsville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Albert and Chloe Treaux Dowdell. On June 17, 1947, David married his beloved wife, the former Angeline Caravella. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2010.
David had worked for Rockwell International Axle Division for thirty-three years in the Tool & Die Department.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Joseph the Worker Site.
During World War II, David had served his country as a member of the United States Army 5th Corps. While serving in Europe at Normandy he did two landings, six campaigns and received six bronze stars.
He was a longtime member of the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for 13 years. David loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He also enjoyed the company of his dogs.
David is survived by his daughter, Sherryn (Michael) Dachko of New Castle and one granddaughter, Caitlin Dachko of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Dowdell and his sister, Audrey Walsh.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Entombment will be in Parkside Mausoleum.
