Audrey Costa, 90, formerly of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 13, 2020 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born on September 10, 1929 in New Castle, and raised in Mahoningtown, she was the daughter of the late Frank DePietro, Sr. and Georgia Swogger DePietro. In 1950 Audrey married her beloved husband, John Costa. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2004.
Audrey was a graduate of New Castle High School. For many years, she had been employed at the Book Rack.
She was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site, where she had been a member of St. Vitus Ladies Guild.
Audrey had served as past President of St. Francis Hospital Volunteers, past Coordinator for the Festival of Trees and was a past member of the Red Hat Society. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished being surrounded by her family. She was known as being the kindest, most selfless person and always having a smile on her face. She welcomed anyone and everyone into her family and her home with open arms. Audrey will leave behind a lasting legacy for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a role model who was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Audrey is survived by her daughter, Audrey Chmiel (Bernie) of Pittsburgh, her son, David Costa, Sr. (Judy) of Allentown, Pa. grandchildren, Bernie Chmiel (Coleen), John-Michael Chmiel (Lindsey), David Costa (Mikki), Dominick Costa, and Vincent Costa. Known to her Great Grandchildren as “Great One”, Logan Chmiel, Leo Chmiel, Lily Chmiel, Gage Laughlin, David Costa, III, and Lorali Costa, her brother, Russell DePietro, In-laws, Rosie Conti, Patty Costa, Samuel and Patty Costa, Audrey Peters and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Audrey was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank (Buddy), Duane, and George, her sister, Vivian Lamorella and her granddaughter, Marie Teresa Chmiel.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
