Amedio A. Dettore (92), sadly passed away on October 20, 2023 with his family by his side. Amedio, known to most as Tony or Mutts, was born on February 16, 1931 to the late Lena (Breno) and Amidio Dettore. Mutts was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, the former Patricia J. Bongivengo.
Mutts was always full of life. He loved golfing, fishing, going to the casino, singing, dancing and traveling, especially spending time on the beach in Florida. Mutts was also a member of the Duca Degli Abruzzi Club. During his lifetime, he had many careers. He proudly served in the Army Airforce and Airforce, was a plumber/pipefitter and steelworker, and negotiated union contracts for Sharon Steel and Youngstown Sheet and Tube. He was perhaps best known for being a one-time owner of the Croton Cafe. Mutts loved music. In his earlier years, he played base guitar for a band called the Shades.
He will be greatly missed by his three children Cheryl Grumbine (Mark), Daniel Dettore (Suzan), and Lisa Winterling (George). Mutts is also survived by three brothers Louis Dettore of New Castle, Larry Dettore of Albany, GA, and Raymond Dettore of Boca Raton, Fl; grandchildren Kylie Hartman (Robert), Kristen Grumbine, Taylor Dettore, Cassie Pleqi (Dimitris), Kristan Miller and Charles Gibson; and five great-grandchildren, Alyssa Grumbine, Christopher Hartman, Stelios Pleqi, Ronan Miller and Kattran Miller.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mutts was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be on Tuesday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full Military Rites on Wednesday at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Joseph McCaffrey, Pastor will officiate.
Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Eternal rest grant unto Tony, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
