Alba A. Geraneo, 95, formerly of Mahoningtown, passed away the afternoon of December 9, 2019 at Quality Life Service of New Castle surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Castle on November 21, 1924, Alba was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Florence Donofrio Lombardo. She is survived by her loving husband of over sixty one years, Gennaro Geraneo, whom she married on January 11, 1958.
She was a devoted member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Church. Alba served as a member of the Ladies Guild and the Holy Rosary Society of the church. Alba retired after many years from J.J. Dean Grocery Company where she had worked as a bookkeeper. Alba enjoyed doing things with her friends. She cherished the times she spend surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Alba is survived by her two children, Mary Sue Johntony and her husband John of New Castle, Gerald Geraneo and his wife Dawn of Satellite Beach, FL, five grandchildren, Michael Johntony, Matthew Johntony, Megan Johntony, Anna Geraneo, Angelina Geraneo and three great grandchildren, Caiden Colombo, Daniel Johntony and Cayla Griffin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Anthony Lombardo, Louis Lombardo, sister, Frances Kalafut and two grandchildren, Gerald Geraneo, Jr. and Nicole Geraneo.
Visitation is Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. Family and friends will meet at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Church on Friday morning where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am by Father Brendan Dawson.
Burial will take place at St. Lucy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Alba.
