Confirmation is the Sacrament in which the gifts of God's grace bestowed in Baptism are brought to their fullest fruition as individuals are "confirmed" as adults in the Church. Confirmation stirs up and enhances what we know as the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, righteousness, knowledge, fear of the the Lord, fortitude, piety, and counsel.
Contrary to modern belief, Confirmation is not the completion of one's faith formation journey but rather the beginning of the rigorous growth we are called to as adults in the Catholic faith. While Confirmation is normally bestowed upon Confirmands by the Bishop, special dispensation can be given to priests to bestow the sacrament as well! In addition to middle school students, Confirmation is also available to adult Catholics who were not confirmed in their youth. Fr. Brendan Dawson will advise any adults who would like to be confirmed.
