William V. Evans Jr., 83, of 6 W. Sheridan Ave., New Castle, passed away the evening of Oct. 19, 2020, at his residence with his family by his side. William was born on May 1, 1937, in New Castle. He was the son of the late William V. and Johanna (Kranski) Evans Sr. William was married to the former Jean Martell. She survives at home. They were married for 63 years.
Mr. Evans was Roman Catholic and attended Holy Spirit Parish. William was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1955. Following graduation, William enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 17, 1955, in Pittsburgh. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 20, 1964, at Lockbourne Air Force Base, Ohio. He continued his education and graduated from Durham College in 1958. Mr. Evans retired after 25 years as a corporate pilot. He had a large car collection and was a member of the Rapid Tappets Car Club and the Mercury Car Club of America.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Jean, William is survived by three daughters, Lonnie (Raymond) Rieder of New Castle, Bobbie Jean (Rody) Rodocker of Pittsburgh and Lorrie Lee (Rich) Hohenbrink of Pittsburgh; one son, William V. (Linda) Evans III of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his loving dog, Hailey, and cat, Chaz.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Evans and Edward Evans; and three sisters, Dorothy Magusiak, Betty Jean Yoho and Florence Evans.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military honors for William at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held immediately following the honor guard service at the funeral home. Pastor Marsha Parrish, chaplain of Family Hospice, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Lord God, you are attentive to the voice of our pleading. Give William eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on him forever. Let us find in your Son comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Make our faith strong through Christ our Lord. Amen.
