Ronald J. Monico, Sr., 80, formerly of S. Mill St. passed away the evening of August 9, 2021 at Quality Life Service of New Castle. Born on October 13, 1940 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Ralph and Marieta (Mary) DeRitis Monico. Ron was married to the former Linda L. Rictor. She preceded him in death on June 24, 1990.
In the early years, Ron worked as a Kiln operator for Shenango China. He then worked for the Lawrence County Catholic Cemetery Assoc. until he retired. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site.
Ron was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed being outdoors doing gardening and walking. He will be remembered as a friendly and kind-hearted person. A devoted father and grandfather, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his children, Ronald Monico, Jr., Michael Monico, Sr. (Erin), all of New Castle and Mary Lynn Wertz (Chris) of Erie, Pa., two brothers, Richard Monico (Dottie) of New Castle and Eugene Monico (Sandra) of Tipp City, OH and six grandchildren, Nicole Wertz, Madison Wertz, Makenzie Wertz, Michael Monico, Jr., Victoria Monico and Colton Monico.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ron was preceded in death by his son, John P. McCue, three brothers, Nicholas Monico, Reginald Antenelli and Joseph Monico.
Visitation will be on Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St. A Blessing Service will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery. Give Robert eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on him forever. Let us find in your Son comfort for our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Make our faith strong through Christ our Lord. Amen.
