Mary R. Donafrio, 78, of 1116 S. Mercer St., passed away the afternoon of Dec. 23, 2020, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Mary was born on June 6, 1942, in Erie. She was the daughter of the late Wilford Loader and Mary A. (Hart) Hinkle.
Mrs. Donafrio was a graduate of Shenango High School, class of 1957. Mrs. Donafrio retired after numerous years of service as a cook at the former Ladbrook's. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends. Mrs. Donafrio also enjoyed preparing meals for her family. This past Thanksgiving, she prepared more than 40 meals for those in her building. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her four children, Mary Ann (Lloyd) Clevenger of Cameron, North Carolina, Carla Bush of New Castle, Christine (Brandon) Johnson of New Castle and Don (Melissa) Donafrio of Chesapeake, Virginia; brother, Skip (Patty) Loader of New Castle; five sisters, Vickie (Don) Adams of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, Grace Smith of Erie, Midge Ginader of Erie, Loreli (Steve) Gavroy of New Castle and Sylvia Mosher of Columbus, Ohio.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her stepfather, Myron Hinkle; daughter, Rose Marie Donafrio; sister, Cynthia Boothbey; and her grandson, Lloyd Brandon Clevenger.
Private visitation will be held for the immediate family Sunday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2020, at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 Mill St., New Castle. A Blessing service will be conducted following visitation at the funeral home Sunday. Seminarian Merv Knieriem of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site, will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date.
Lord God, you are attentive to the voice of our pleading. Give Mary eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on her forever. Let us find in your Son comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Make our faith strong through Christ our Lord. Amen.
