Mary M. (Recheck-Ronan) Smolinski, age 71, of 2971 Acre Road New Castle, passed away peacefully the evening of Feb. 8, 2021, at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh, with her loving husband, daughter and son-in-law by her side. Mary was born March 1, 1949, in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette (Klabon) Recheck as well as her stepfather, Thomas B. Ronan. Mary was married to David J. Smolinski for 49 years. He survives at their home.
Mrs. Smolinski was Roman Catholic and attended Holy Spirit Parish-St. Joseph the Worker site. She was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1967. Mrs. Smolinski worked for numerous years as a ledger clerk at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She was forced to retire due to a medical disability. Mary loved baking and cooking for her family. She enjoyed going on RV camping trips with her husband and daughter. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, David, Mary is survived by her daughter, Lori (Julian) Johnson of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; sister, Gloria (Joseph) Harb of Parma, Ohio; and brother, Thomas B. (Barbara) Ronan II of New Castle. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at noon for Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Brendan Dawson, parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Parish, will officiate. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery at a later date.
