On this Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Catholics throughout the world celebrate our faith in the true presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. We believe our Savior is truly present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity under the appearance of bread and wine every time we celebrate Holy Mass. In this sacrament, we become one with the living Christ. As Catholics, we also adore our Lord in the Holy Eucharist through Eucharistic Adoration.
We are very blessed at Holy Spirit Parish to have an Adoration Chapel open for you to privately spend some time with our Eucharistic Lord. This weekend, the Adoration Chapel will have an open house from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the former CCD building across from St. Mary Church, at 119 North Beaver Street. Chapel Coordinators will be there to show you around and answer questions.
This weekend will be our last Mass at the Sears parking lot in the Union Plaza. Thank you to McClure Realty and all of the stores in the plaza for allowing us to celebrate Holy Mass for exactly one year! We had asked permission for a month or two and they graciously allowed us to remain for a whole year! Please join me in expressing gratitude to Dick McClure and all of the stores in the plaza.
Bishop Zubik has assigned Fr. Anthony Sciarappa to St. Michael the Archangel Parish. Fr. Benjamin Barr from St. Michael the Archangel has been assigned as our new parochial vicar.
We are very grateful to Fr. Anthony for his wonderful service to all the people of Holy Spirit Parish. He has always been particularly very dear to me since I came to know him when he was in high school and a member of my previous parish. It has been a true joy to have him serve with me as a priest these three years. We wish him well in his new assignment and promise the pledge of our continued prayers and support. The assignment change does not become effective until July 1st, so we will plan an opportunity to thank Father and wish him well on his new assignment following a Mass with a reception. Details will be forthcoming.
Speaking of Fr. Anthony, we will also be celebrating the Feast of St. Anthony on June 12th at a 4:00 pm Mass at St. Anthony Church which will be followed by a reception in the hall. On the following Saturday, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Vitus at the 4:00 pm Mass in St. Vitus Church with a reception following.
We will be providing more information regarding Fr. Benjamin Barr and his background in future bulletins and on the website. See page 10 of the bulletin for other staff changes coming this summer.
As you can see, a tremendous amount of strategic planning and work takes place on a daily basis in our very large parish. There is much more I have to share with you so please stay tuned! Watch the bulletin for important updates as well as our website, HSPLC.ORG, YouTube, Facebook and Flocknote. This promises to be a very busy summer and fall! Now that COVID is behind us, we are going to be moving forward very quickly—so hold on to your seats and remember, as always, let us pray:
Lord help us to desire what you desire and please give us the grace to do it! Now, it is more important than ever to keep the main thing, the main thing.
