Josephine DeMatteis, 91, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of April 23, 2020 in Merritt Island, Florida. She was born on September 23, 1928 in New Castle to the late Joseph and Rose Pallott Querriera. Josephine was married to her beloved husband, Rudy DeMatteis. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1994.
Josephine loved to dance. She enjoyed going to garage sales and visiting casinos. In later years Josephine enjoyed spending her winters in Florida. A loving mother and grandmother Josephine’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Josephine will also be sadly missed by her granddogs that she dearly loved.
Josephine was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Site. She also belonged to the Ladies Guild at the church.
Josephine is survived by her four children, Diana (James) Olsen of Pittsburgh, Pa., Janet DeMatteis of Merritt Island, Florida, Charles DeMatteis of Chino, California, Patsy (Kathy) DeMatteis of New Castle, one brother, James Querriera of Covina, California, six grandchildren, Joseph and Jonathan DeMatteis, Ali DeMatteis, Charles DeMatteis, Eric Olsen, and Jeremiah DeMatteis, two great-grandchildren, Aurora DeMatteis and Josiah DeMatteis.
In addition to her parents and husband, Josephine was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Cioffi, Ann Cefalo, Roseann McCree, and two brothers, William and Frank Querriera.
A Private Blessing Service will be held at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.
Father Brendan Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
