Helen F. Pszenny, 92, formerly of West Miller Street, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Aug. 10, 2020, at Carriage Manor. Helen was born on Oct. 24, 1927, in New Castle. She was a daughter of the late Justin and Emielia Narbut Panasewicz. Helen was married to the late Frank J. Pszenny. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2010. They were married for 62 years.
Helen was Roman Catholic and attended Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul site. She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed baking and cooking meals for her family. She was also an accomplished seamstress. Helen loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren.
Helen worked for 40 years as a beautician in New Castle. She started her career working for Selen's Beauty Shop, and Raymond's Beauty Shop during the day and finishing her day at the Penn Theater taking tickets at night. Helen was the first female crossing guard for the New Castle City School District. She was a social member of the Polish Falcons, Nest 146. Helen was a member of the Hairdresser's Association of Lawrence County. She was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Silver Threads at the former SS. Philip and James Church.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Christine A. Donston of New Castle; two grandchildren, Lance M. (Shelley) Donston of New Castle and Autumn L. (Corry) Schachern of Neshannock Township; and two great-grandchildren, Aria and Daniel Schachern.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frank; she was preceded in death by three brothers, Edmond and Edward Panasewicz, and Lambert Dihel.
A private family service will be held at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 S Mill St. Seminarian Merv E. Knieriem of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be in SS Philip and James Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Carriage Manor, and Billie and Bethann from Allegheny Hospice for all their care.
