Gennaro Geraneo, 91, formerly of Mahoningtown, passed away the morning of October 4, 2020 at Quality Life Service of New Castle. Born in Caserta, Italy on November 20, 1928, Gennaro was the son of the late Pasquale and Maria Assunta Lombardo Geraneo. Preceding him in death, on December 9, 2019, was his loving wife of over sixty years, the former Alba A. Lombardo, whom he married on January 11, 1958.
Gennaro was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vincent de Paul site. He retired from Universal Rundle where he had worked as a castor for twenty-nine years. Prior to that he had worked at National Plumbing. Gennaro enjoyed visiting casinos, playing cards and was a member of the local Bocce league. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed making wine and sausage for all his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Mary Sue Johntony and her husband, John, of New Castle, Jerry Geraneo and his wife, Dawn, of Satellite Beach, FL, his brother, Domenic Geraneo of Italy, his sister, Mary Ann McMullin of Washington State; his grandchildren, Michael Johntony, Matthew Johntony and Megan Johntony, Anna Geraneo and Angelina Geraneo and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gennaro is preceded in death by his brother, Giovanni Geraneo, sister, Josephine Geraneo Cunti and two grandchildren, Jerry Geraneo, Jr. and Nikki Geraneo.
Private calling hours will be held at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home 941 S. Mill St.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 7, at 11:00am at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church officiated by Rev. Father Anthony Sciarappa. Burial will take place at St. Lucy Cemetery.
