Dorothy Jean Boron, 94, passed peacefully on Oct. 12, 2019, in her home at Jameson Place, with her family by her side. Dorothy was born in New Castle on June 24, 1925 to the late John and Mildred Young.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Walter Joseph Boron; a son, John Edward Boron and his wife, Jane; and sister, June Kelly and her husband, Chris. Surviving are her son, Edwin (Char) Boron; daughter, Barbara (Serdar) Boron-Koyuncu; grandchildren, Jeff Boron, Troy Boron, Becki Bostick and Alaina Gorka; and great-grandchildren, Justin, Jamie, Zakk and Christian. Also missing Dorothy are her lifelong friends, Donna Dorsey and Lisa Barber, who kept her busy with fun activities.
Dorothy graduated from Penn State University with an Associate Degree in Arts & Science when she was in her 60s. She was the owner of a sportswear lettering business until her retirement. Dorothy was a member of New Castle Music Club, A.A.R.P., Area on Aging and Red Hats. She loved to travel internationally. She was a beautiful vocalist who sang in the
Messiah choir and with St. Mary's Choir. She also traveled to Europe with St. Vitus Choir to sing for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.
Dorothy loved oil painting, dancing and playing cards. Her friends and family will miss her love, humor, laughter and boundless energy. Dorothy will remain a role model to live a life of joy and fun.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 S. Mill St. A Blessing Service will be celebrated at 7 p.m. after visitation Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Brendan Dawson of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in SS. Philip and James Cemetery.
