Dorothy Evelyn Panella, 87, passed away the morning of May 11, 2020 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born in New Castle on January 15, 1933, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Harvey C. Hammond, Sr. and Bertha Earl Hammond. Preceding her in death on January 31, 1981, was her loving husband, Richard C. Panella, Sr. whom she married on December 1, 1956.
Evelyn was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus site. She enjoyed cooking. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished being surrounded by her family. Evelyn was known as being the kindest, most selfless person and always having a smile on her face. She welcomed anyone and everyone into her family and her home with open arms. Evelyn will leave behind a lasting legacy for her children, grandchildren and great children as a role model who was loved by many and will be missed beyond measures.
Evelyn is survived by her loving children, Richard C. Panella, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl; Mark A. Panella and his wife, Cindy; Christopher Panella and his wife, Candace; Angela Olson and her husband, Brad; Alice A. Colucci and her husband, Vince; all of New Castle; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brothers, John Allwine, Carl Hammond, Sr., Harvey Hammond, Jr., Harry Hammond, her sisters, Eileen Shoaf, Charlotte Thomas, Mary Beaumuir, Betty Regna, Alice Prosser and her grandson, Brandon Olson.
Due to the current health crisis within our communities, the family will hold a private Blessing Service at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. conducted by Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish. Burial will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the Tanner family and the Haven Nursing Home and their staff for the wonderful care of their mother during this very difficult time.
