Donald E. Petrovitch, 87, of 928 Clarence Ave., New Castle, passed away the evening of Nov. 6, 2020, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Donald was born on April 30, 1933, in New Castle. He was the son of the late Walter and Helen Zapasnik Petrovitch. He was married to the former Dolores L. Luksetic. She survives at home.
Mr. Petrovitch was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Joseph site. He enlisted in the United States Navy on Jan. 21, 1952, in Pittsburgh, serving his country during the Korean War. He earned the rank of Seaman. He was assigned to the USS Kearsage (CVA-33). Donald received many decorations and citations, among them were the China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with three stars, and United Nations Service Medal. Mr. Petrovitch was honorably discharged on Sept. 23, 1954.
Donald worked as a foreman at the former Universal Rundle Corporation. He also worked at Elger Industries in Ford City, Pennsylvania. Most recently, Don worked for the Noga Funeral Home Inc. as an associate for the funeral home for eight years. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed going to hunting camp with his friends every November. He enjoyed golfing and was an accomplished carpenter. He enjoyed extensive travels with his wife, DoDo.
In addition to his wife Dolores, Donald is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas (Rosemarie) Petrovitch of New Castle; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joanne Houlette.
A private Blessing Service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. for immediate family at 11 a.m. Parochial Vicar Anthony Sciarappa of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Lord God, you are attentive to the voice of our pleading. Give Donald eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on him forever. Let us find in your Son comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Make our faith strong through Christ our Lord. Amen.
